Santa Fe is a traveler’s town. You can tell this by the plethora of exquisite hotels, most of them housed in lovingly maintained historic buildings. So vast was this pool of lodging that Chelsea and I could not commit to one base for the duration of our stay, resulting in a nomadic progression from one meticulously appointed inn to another.

The El Rey Court, first established along Route 66 in 1936 and freshly rejuvenated as a bohemian retreat in 2018, was not the favorite stop on our tour of Santa Fe’s public houses, but it was the first, perhaps the most charming, and certainly the most photogenic.
