Tasked with creating a video overview of the Missouri Botanical Garden's sustainability division to play in the Garden's new Brookings Exploration Center, I pitched and produced this brief snapshot that breaks down the Garden's efforts into three areas: growing green (horticulture), building green (construction), and sharing green (public engagement). Special thanks to videographer T.J. Ingrassia for making it look so good (my cameo as a water bottle-filling, compost-discarding Garden visitor notwithstanding).
It took a few months, but the new incarnation of If You Really Want to Hear About It now has a subscription component.
If you'd like to get notified whenever the site is updated with a new batch of songs, as well as receive liner notes, download links, and the occasional odd bonus, you can subscribe to the If You Really... email list. This seemed like the best compromise between a traditional podcast subscription and the more ephemeral approach I'm favoring with the current format. And I wanted to create a newsletter.
It had been some time since the last entry in my periodic music diary and I craved a diversion in the midst of redesigning my bio page (a process that, like my own personal Winchester Mystery House, will seemingly never be complete), so this latest episode delivers not only a handful of songs I've been favoring recently but also a new format.
No longer technically a podcast, as its emphasis is on streaming rather than subscribing, If You Really Want to Hear About It is now even more of a snapshot. In the spirit of burning out rather than fading away, I'm dropping the feed and concentrating updates directly on the show's new home. Downloaders can still grab the file for each show while it's live, but the site and mp3 will be refreshed each week* with a new batch of songs.
The August Vinyl Challenge is an Instagram contest/creativity exercise sponsored by a dude who goes by the handle @needledrops. I'm not usually inclined to participate in online memes or trends, but I liked the promise of this one, and I've been having a great time taking part in it.
